Recently a local who is also not a professional skin therapist has found a cheaper way to do fish therapy. Mr Sheik from Cahaya Alam has discovered that apart from using ikan Garra Rufa, he uses ikan Electric Yellow Barb. A Gara Rufa costs around RM 3 for a tiny 2cm fish which in his opinion “mahal nak mampus dah la besar ikan bilis je”.
“depa ni buat write up macam-macam pasal fish therapy to justify therapy charges RM 38 for 30 minutes. Hangpa tak payah pergi turki atau kenko fish spa tu. Mai rumah aku, aku kasik rendam kaki free.”
Being an active member of “anti pay-high-for-brandname movement”, Mr Sheik has done R&D at his kolam ikan. The finding is very interesting.
“Aku letak ikan carp, ikan guppy, ikan tiger fish, mickey mouse platty dan electric yellow barb. Terbukti yellow barb and the gang saja yang kerumun gigit kaki”
Mr Sheik next plan is to triple the number of his electric yellow barb in his kolam ikan. The price of the yellow electric barb is RM 0.80 to RM1 per fish at kedai ikan Xian Leng, Seksyen 2 Shah alam (sebelah Wet World). It is a lot more cheaper than Garra Rufa from Turkey (betul ke dari turki? nampak macam anak tilapia je..).
“Right now I am trying to tackle the green algae issues. People in google says that I should scrub more and remove 20% of the water from the kolam ikan and replacing it with fresh water at least twice a week.
